What is "Day Zero"
"Day Zero" is transplant day! This is the day a patient recieves their new stem cells or bone marrow. A patients immune system is wiped out, and the healthy cells replace what was once their. Every day after day zero is +1 day. Many patients celebrate this day, as their new, hopefully healthy, life begins. Some patients even celebrate day zero as a second birthday, as they now have a second chance at life.
Our Story In 2018, Douglas’ father, Donald, was diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndrome. Having spent six months in two different hospitals and making it through some very difficult times, a stem cell transplant date was set. As a way to bring everyone together in support of Donald, Kimberly proposed the idea of wearing matching t-shirts to the hospital on Donald’s big day. On the day of his stem cell transplant, December 4th , 2018, the Nelson family and a few friends proudly wore their Day Zero T-shirt on what would be one of the most important days of his life. The words on the t-shirt have become words to live by for the Nelson family and continue to live on beyond December 4th, as a reminder that Life Begins on Day Zero. Our Mission It has become so important to the Nelson family and their immediate friends and family to spread blood cancer awareness by encouraging everyone to donate blood and become a registered organ and stem cell donor. A portion of all sales will be donated to blood cancer research in support of organizations whose mission is to find treatment options for those in need. It is our mission at Day Zero T-shirt Company to spread our message that day zero can be anyone’s new beginning.
